1913

The north west has long had a strong hold on melancholic but uplifting indie rock, from Joy Division and Echo & The Bunnymen up through Doves and Elbow. Upcoming Mancunians 1913 are the latest bunch of serious young men to align themselves to the cause, whipping up a fierce selection of epic anthems as they become one of the most talked-about bands in their hometown.
The band actually formed from the ashes of two failed local groups, unearthing a fierce musical chemistry over a series of informal practices.Realising that they had something to offer, the band settled down to write a clutch of tracks to match their stadium-sized ambition.
The results are what 1913 themselves term 'death pop'. In layman's terms, that translates as dark, atmospheric music, following in the footsteps of those classic bands alongside modern acts such as Editors and White Lies. Brooding, introspective, but ultimately embracing and communal.
Now, with a bunch of windswept anthems ready and waiting, 1913 are ready to spread their message to a wider audience. Their debut single, Atlantis, has just been released, attracting the attention of XFM and 6Music, as 1913 aim to make 2010 their year.
