Dark side of the moon descends on downtown Manhattan

posted 9 7, 2010

Manchester City's new away kit was given an unusual launch yesterday when it was worn by some of the club's stars during a kickaround with some locals in downtown Manhattan.

A small squad of Joe Hart, Emmanuel Adebayor, Micah Richards, Dedryck Boyata, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Kolo Touré arrived at Sara D. Roosevelt Park yesterday afternoon to take on a group of native New Yorkers to celebrate the launch of City's new navy blue away strip.

The match surprisingly finished 1-1, with the local players taking the lead against City's global superstars. Unveiling the smart new kit, Tailored by Umbro for the forthcoming 2010/2011 season, City captain Kolo Touré commented: 'We loved playing against the New Yorkers.  They gave us a good game on their home turf.  The pitch is right in the heart of the city and the atmosphere around it gave us a glimpse of how big football is in New York.  It was a fun game to play in and a great way to debut our new away kit'.

After taking on New York's finest, City's stars then invited some of their fans who'd travelled over from Manchester to take them on in another game.
