Umbro has a long and happy relationship with the Republic Of Ireland team, crafting some fine shirts for the national team which they've worn in tournaments and qualifiers over many years. But there's more to Umbro in Ireland than that....
As the current League Of Ireland season drew to a close with yesterday's dramatic FAI Cup Final, we thought it was worth taking a closer look at this year's results to show just how much Umbro is a part of the football fabric in Ireland. Sligo Rovers dramatic injury-time win made them the seventh Umbro-wearing team to win the Cup in the last ten years, a remarkable record of achievement in the country's most prestigious cup competition.
Top of the pile in the league this season were St Patricks Athletic, winning their first title 1998 - you can see them celebrating in style in their Umbro kits at the top of the page. Not just them though - every team that finished in the top half of the League Of Ireland Premier Division wore Umbro kits - coincidence? We think not! The top four teams - St Pats, Dundalk FC, Sligo Rovers and Derry City - will all be representing their country in Europe next season, wearing Umbro.
That's not all though - Shamrock Rovers also wear Umbro, and they managed to clean up with the Setanta Cup, League Cup and the Leinster Cup this season.
Congratulations to all the Umbro wearing teams and players who have made 2013 such a great year in Ireland. As the national side look forward to fresh qualification campaign under a new manager in 2014, we're sure there's going to be more exciting times ahead...
