about the team

The most successful team in Chilean football history, Colo Colo have dominated the sport in their country, and are also the only Chilean team to ever win the Copa Liberatores, the most prestigious competition in South America.
The club play at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano, named after a legendary player who helped in the formation of Colo Colo in the 1920s, and the team's name comes from a legendary Chilean chief who fought against the Spanish in the 1500s.

Honours

Liga Chilena de Futbol: Primera Division - 29 titles
Copa Chile - 10 wins, 4 runners-up
Copa Libertadores de America - 1991, runners up 1973

Finest Hours

With titles won in almost every decade, it's difficult to choose one particular era for Colo Colo, but the Copa Liberatores victory in 1991 was a significant highlight. Having reached the final of the transcontinental competition in 1973, only to lose to Argentina's Independiente, Colo Colo had to wait another 15 years before they faced Paraguay's Olimpia Asuncion in the final. With the first leg drawn 0-0, Colo Colo secured a 3-0 victory in the second to secure the prestigious trophy.

Folk Heroes

David Arellano was both captain and founder of Colo Colo before he died tragically in 1927 from an infection brought on by a tackle on the football field. The black bar above the club's crest was added in his honour.

Luis Alvarez was part of the iconic Colo Colo team of the early 1960s, in 1963 the club scored a record 103 goals in one season, with Alvarez scoring 37, the highest ever total from a single player.

Fans

Considered to be the most popular team in Chile, Colo Colo attract supporters from all over the country. Their die-hard fans are known as the Garra Blanca (white claw), and follow their team to every game. They're also the oldest organised group of football fans in Chile.

Omar Reygadas, one of the Chilean miners rescued in 2010, was waving a Colo Colo flag as he was freed from the mine in Copiapó.
