Born in 1944 from the merger of two clubs in the city of Lille, Olympique Lillois and Sporting Club de Fives, Lille Olympique Sporting Club Lille Métropole have a rich history of success in the French leagues. They were best know in the immediate post-war years, winning many Championships and French Cups. 

From 2000, the club was reconstructed with new projects and ambitions in mind. Since then, LOSC have been firmly established in European football, appearing in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. The club will reach their next milestone in July 2012 when they will move to their new Grand Stade Lille Metropole. With this state-of-the-art, unique arena, the future looks bright for LOSC.

Finest Hours

In the period following their formation in 1944, Lille were one of the dominant forces in French football, winning the league championship and numerous French Cups.

In more recent time, the club have been a consistent presence in Ligue 1, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in 2001. Finishing in fourth place last season, they will compete in the UEFA Europa League in the forthcoming 2010/2011 campaign.

Folk Heroes

Recently, well known names such as Antoine Sibierski, Bernard Lama and Patrick Kluivert have played with pride for Lille, but the real heroes at the club played in earlier eras.

The club's golden era immediately after the Second World War is typified through emblematic captain and striker Andre Strappe, while other great names in Lille's history include international forward Jean Baratte, winger Jean Vincent and Chilean star Ignacio Prieto.
