Umbro have looked to the past for future-forward inspiration with the second iteration of 1990’s-inspired sneaker collection, Archive Research Project (ARP).

First introduced for SS19, the contemporary ARP sneaker collection gets a radical AW19 update with a new reflective version of Umbro NEPTUNE, a fashion-forward design update for Umbro RUN M, and a brand-new addition to the ARP family in the shape of Umbro PHOENIX.

Leading the charge for AW19 is the ever-popular Umbro NEPTUNE which is given a directional black-on-black makeover for the winter months. Reflective side-straps and panelling provide surface interest to a style which sticks to its original template. Tried and tested design markers include the NEPTUNE’s oversized chunky outsole, mesh toe-box and the sneaker’s characteristic speed-lace system. The NEPTUNE’s black-on-black styling includes embossed Umbro logos on the sides of each shoe with the brand’s instantly recognisable tri-diamond symbol taking pride-of-place on the shoe’s sole unit.

Next in Umbro’s AW19 ARP line-up is the Umbro RUN M FUTURE FLUO. Featuring a progressive design overhaul, AW19’s iteration of the RUN M introduces an ankle-high sock-shoe hybrid silhouette and twin-layered beefy sole. RUN M’s upper is constructed from a knitted mesh in fluoro yellow with rubberised side support panels and a faux lace-up system. Black oversized diamond symbols and side-on logos provide surface contrasts alongside vertical taped details on each heel and a flecked black mid-sole.

Brand new for AW19 is the PHOENIX. Taking design cues from the running shoes popularised in the 1990’s, the PHOENIX riffs on mixed fabrications, a clean-lined chunky aesthetic and a palette of tonal shades punctuated by pop-bright contrasts. The predominantly white upper gets a millennial update with contrasting panels in sky blue, navy blue, and hot pink. Lace sleeves and tongue-stitched lace retainers in emergency yellow provide even more colour pop in emergency yellow.

Combining archive-inspired designs with up-to-the-minute tech-led construction savvy, Umbro’s Archive Research Project delivers this season’s must-have sneakers collection. With the second chapter of ARP, Umbro reasserts its credentials as a leader in British sportswear while training the spotlight on forward-thinking sneaker-led design.

The ARP AW19 Collection is available in selected countries now.
