From national anthems to good old fashioned terrace chants that have been passed down from generation to generation – music is as much a part of rugby as the ball is.
Songs, lyrics, and chants – some sincere, many hilarious – tell stories that make up an intrinsic part of club identity. That identity belongs to nobody but the fans that know them off by heart… and sing in unison from the same place week in week out.
To celebrate this unique aspect of the game, we teamed up French Rugby Union side Castres Olympique to call upon supporters to nominate their favourite club songs by leaving them as comments on campaign posts across @umbro, @umbrofrance and club social media channels.
The most popular songs and chants have been transformed into artwork for the club's third jersey by multidisciplinary design studio and creative Killa Villa.
Styled in blue, the jersey takes inspiration from the vibrant and energetic songs sung by supporters on match days at Stade Pierre-Fabre. The artwork features several layers and includes dates of club titles and trophies, club insignia and the lyrics of iconic songs including 'Allez Castres, c’est si beau de porter les couleurs du CO', 'Bleu et Blanc, notre drapeau flottera toujours très haut' and 'tous ensemble, tous ensemble, CO' and more.
