Pikol Clothing x Umbro
Tailored for Umbro continues, this time we’ve come together with Pikol Clothing to create a six-piece collection exploring six decades of football, sportswear and British style, from the 1940s through to the 1990s.
Some pieces draw directly from garments discovered in the Umbro archive, while others reference the football kits, silhouettes and wider culture of their era. Across the collection, these references are reworked through Pikol’s approach to clothing: hand-cut construction, embroidery, repurposed vintage textiles and traditional hand-finishing.
The collection opens in the 1940s with a shirt informed by an archival design. Tailored with a contemporary silhouette, it is constructed from 46 hand-cut stripes of stonewashed grey and black linen.
The 1950s are reinterpreted through a hand-dyed quarter-zip track jacket with a logo assembled from vintage football shirts.
For the 1960s, the collection looks to an iconic Umbro 1966 national team kit from. A pair of sixes, calling out the year of the original is applied using off-cuts of hand-embroidered linen, repurposed from earlier work in the Pikol studio.
The 1970s take shape in a football shirt derived from an archival jersey, elevated through hand-chainstitched stripes and a hand-embroidered logo.
Moving into the 1980s, the collection explores knitwear through a piece crafted in 100% merino wool with cross-stitched details across the front.
The story concludes in the 1990s with a bomber jacket inspired by Umbro outerwear from the decade, distinguished by a hand-cross-stitched logo.
Rather than reproducing pieces from the past, the collection uses the archive and the visual language surrounding football across each decade as a starting point. Familiar sportswear forms are pulled apart and rebuilt through Pikol’s slower, hand-led way of making clothes.
The result is six garments that move through the history of Umbro while retaining the irregularities, construction and handwork of the Pikol studio.
